The Dalton Gang was originally formed by the Dalton brothers, who were all law enforcers that turned to a life of mischief after being kicked out of the force. They were notorious train robbers and were wanted criminals for a good long time. The Dalton Gang Hideout that people know today is their sister?s old home in Meade, Kansas.

The Dalton Gang Hideout was then turned into a museum and a tourist attraction in the 1940s. This was also the time when the 95 feet long tunnel to the barn below the hillside was reconstructed.

Today, the Dalton Gang Hideout is operated by the Meade County Historical Society, who acquired it in 1995, after being owned by a series of families and individuals.
