Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the African American Heritage Center or AAHC is the central station for academic research of African American acquisitions highlighting the Simpson County achievements and also those of the region and state.

The African American Heritage Center heads a cultural conservation project providing a comprehensive look at the progression of African American Communities in Simpson County. It is also an educational facility formed to commemorate the happenings of the past, reflect on the activities of the present and sustain these events for the future generations.

Through its devoted programs, genealogical research, workshops and activities the African American Heritage Center is striving to provide a broader understanding of the life of African Americans to every citizen in the county, state and the nation. Today the African American Heritage Center has been a state and nationwide tourist destination and a valuable source of historic and genealogical knowledge and has been helping visitors and others learn more about the past and better preparedness for the future.
