Before the massive bridges connecting Ohio and Kentucky were constructed, people used ferries and steamboats to cross the Ohio River and to travel from the neighboring states. The Anderson Ferry, originally known as the Kottmyer Ferry, was one of these widely used forms of transportation by the public. It started operations in 1817 and continuously provided services from then, until today.

The Kottmyer Ferry was acquired by the Anderson family, thus the change of name. It now serves as the only automobile crossing from Brent Spence Bridge to the West Bridge. The company runs trips daily, with varying schedules per season. Visitors are advised to call first, or check the informational website listed to learn more about the times of the trip.

There currently are three boats, Boone 7, Deborah A and Little Boone. They travel between Delhi, Ohio, and Constance, Ky. You can ride over in your car or small truck or motorcycle or bicycle, and pedestrians are welcome.

On the Ohio side, the street leading to the ferries is named Anderson Ferry Road. You can get to the ferry on the Kentucky side from Highway 8 and on the Ohio side from Highway 50.
