The Barren River Lake State Resort Park is a state park and recreation area in Lucas, Kentucky. It is situated on the very site known as the ?Barrens?.

The ?Barrens? are noted for being the contrasting area to the widely forested Kentucky. Unlike other parts of the state, this area is not heavily forested but is open grassland. This is due to the fact that Native Americans repeatedly burned the forest that once stood in it to stampede and capture big game. This made the locale unique, creating an open savannah.

Opened in 1965, the Barren River Lake State Resort Park preserves the natural conditions of the area. It also offers a wide array of outdoor activities including biking, birding, camping, fishing, golfing, hiking, horseback riding, swimming, and shuffleboarding. The site also has a lodge that is equipped with athletic courts, playgrounds, and a gift shop.
