Located in Big Bone, Kentucky, the Big Bone Lick State Park is formed to make the Pleistocene megafauna fossils that were excavated from the site available to the public. It is a designated National Natural Landmark since 2009 and a Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail Site.
The Big Bone State Park boasts of being the location where fossils of mammoths and other huge creatures were found. It is also where the American vertebrate paleontology bloomed, as it contributed largely in developing the concept related to extinction and the connection of geology to paleontology.
The Big Bone Lick State Park is open year-round and offers a wide variety of attractions. It has a series of nature trails, campgrounds, and an outdoor museum for starters.
