The Carter Caves State Resort Park is a state resort park and recreation area in Olive Hill, Kentucky. It contains the Bat Cave and Cascade Caverns State Nature Preserves.
Composed of a couple of caves, the Carter Caves State Resort Park is quite a unique natural attraction. It was created in 1959 in efforts of preserving the area after being owned by a series of private citizens for almost200 years. It covers 1600 acres of area, and 146 of which was designated as nature preserves in 1981 as a means to protect the Indiana bat, Canada yew, and mountain maple among other endangered species found at the site.
Visitors of the Carter Caves State Resort Park can enjoy a lot of things while at the site. For one, being a resort park, it has a lodge, cottages, golf courses, campground, and natural areas. The caves are open for tours.
