The Duncan Center Museum and Art Gallery is a historic museum located in Greenville, Kentucky. The museum was established with the goal of preserving the history, art and culture of the Muhlenberg County as well as the rest of the state of Kentucky.

The museum officially opened in 1989 and was financed by Hamilton Richardson Duncan. Hamilton Duncan was the grandson of the Muhlenberg coal baron William Graham Duncan who also commissioned the Duncan House in 1912. The museum became the very first historical museum and art gallery in the Muhlenberg County?s.

The Duncan Center Museum and Art Gallery was also established to provide the general public with a way and an opportunity to see the different visual arts and historical collections housed and preserved in the museum.

Visitors should expect different permanent exhibits including the museum?s Victorian Era Collection which features a collection of nineteenth century fashion including elegant travelling dresses and clothes and even classic mourning dresses. The museum also features the coal history collection which celebrates the rise and fall of Kentucky?s first commercial coal mine located in Western Kentucky?s Paradise area in the Muhlenberg County. This exhibit features dozens of artifacts featuring a restored handcar plus hundreds of pictures and equipments.

The Duncan Center Museum also features other historical items that are directly related to the Duncan family or with the history of Muhlenberg. The Duncan Family History Collection includes a wedding gown worn by one of the Duncan women in 1905 together with the blueprints for the unique ?Thistle Cottage? as well as scrapbooks and other personal effects from the family.

Guests can also visit the exhibit for Muhlenberg celebrities including the Warren Oates Memorial Hall, the permanent exhibit for Merle Travis and the Felix E. Martin Jr. Collection.
