The Kentucky Derby Museum is a museum for American Thoroughbred horse racing located on Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Derby Museum attracts as much as 210,000 guests each year and is considered by a lot of locals as Louisville?s premiere attraction. The Kentucky Derby Museum opened its doors to the public in April 1985 and was funded initially by the foundation of James Graham Brown together with five other private banks in the area.

The Kentucky Derby Museum features a lot of unique attractions for guests of all ages. The museum?s exhibits are categorized either as permanent exhibits and current exhibits. The permanent exhibits inside the Kentucky Derby Museum has just opened after renovation includes things such as ?Test Your Derby IQ? which tests your knowledge about the Kentucky Derby, ?The Greatest Race? a retelling of classic Derby wins using cutting edge, high-definition film technology.

Visitors can also check out the experience what its like to be in the announcers station with an exhibit featuring a real Derby caller?s microphone or try to ride a champion thoroughbred through a rider?s shoes. Guests can also marvel at the beauty of the Kentucky Derby Trophy through the exhibit called ?Winners Circle.?

The second floor will also provide some interesting exhibits which can help educate visitors about the work that comes along with raising, training and breeding champion horses for the Kentucky Derby or even simpler horse races. Some of the interesting second floor exhibits in the Kentucky Derby Museum are the exhibits that will help in people understand the naming process for horses such as thoroughbreds. Guests can also take pictures of themselves while seated on a replica horse inside the starting gate.

The general admission rates for the Kentucky Derby Museum is $14.00 for adults and $11.oo for children, with those younger than 5 years of age can get in for free. During summers, the museum is open from 8 am to 5 pm from Monday to Saturday with Sundays opening at 11 AM and closing at 5 PM.
