The Kentucky State Fair is the official state fair for Kentucky which is traditionally held in Louisville?s Kentucky Exposition Center. The fair attracts more than 600,000 guests in a 520-acre of combined indoor and outdoor exhibits each year and offers a wide range of activities, attractions and dishes for fairgoers.

The fair was originally organized by Colonel Lewis Sanders, a Fayette County farmer, in 1816. The Kentucky State Fair opened five years after the very first fair in the United States which is the Massachusetts State Fair. The state fair moved from one city to another until finally settling in Louisville in 1907.

The 11-day event includes a wide range of competitions from handicrafts to agriculture. Craft competitions include quilt making contests, battles for the best homebrewed beer and homemade pastries. The Kentucky State Fair has also made it a point to take in exhibitors to make money but also to showcase local crafts, arts and talents.

Visitors of the Kentucky State Fair can also catch health screenings and home improvement demonstrators that help make their lives better in one form or another. The state fair has also become synonymous with world class entertainment as the state features different acts such as death defying acrobatic displays, dazzling illusionists, and balloon sculptors.

The fair is also known to host the World Championship Horse Show which features different horse breeds and breeders hailing from different parts of the world. The horse show also attracts as much as 2,000 saddlebreds vying for over a million dollars on awards and premiums.

Various local and famous artists have showcased their talents in the fair?s stages such as Lady Antebellum, Def Leppard, Jason Aldean, Maroon 5 and Train.
