Located in Lexington, Kentucky, the Loudoun House is one of the finest and largest examples of structures sporting the Gothic Revival architecture in the state. It was designed by Alexander Jackson Davis, a New York architect, for Francis Key Hunt, a relative of the famous Francis Scott Key, who wrote the lyrics to ?The Star-Spangled Banner?.

The Loudoun House was built in 1852 on the 50-acre lot that Hunt?s wife?s parents gave to them as a wedding gift. The money used for the construction of the house was from Hunt?s inheritance when his father died of cholera.

Inspired by the WCH Waddell Mansion in New York City, the Loudoun House took $30,000 to complete. The name came from Hunt?s wife?s favorite song, ?The Bells of Loudon?. It is now used by the Lexington Art League.
