One of the most important structures in the city of Louisville, Kentucky is the Louisville Metro Hall, formerly known as the Jefferson County Courthouse. The hall serves as the seat of the city?s government.

The Louisville Metro hall has a rather rich history. Upon its conception, the Hall was intended to be the state house for the city of Kentucky. Though it never did see such a role in the long run, it did serve as the seat of the Kentucky State Legislature during the American Civil War.

Another important note about the Louisville Metro Hall is that it served as one of the cradles of anti-slavery sentiments in the state, though ironically, it served as a center for the slave trade earlier.
