The Mary Todd Lincoln House is the first historic site that is dedicated to honor any First Lady. Mary Todd Lincoln is the wife of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. She was born on December 13, 1818 in Lexington.

Her life in the White House was hounded by controversy and tragedy. People had very different and opposing views regarding her partnership with Lincoln. Also, the loyalty of the of the Todd family was divided that it sparked further controversy among the press. Some people deemed Mary?s expenditures in the White House to be extravagant and pretentious as well.

Tragedy struck when Mary watched her 11-year old son die of Typhoid Fever. Three years after, Lincoln was assassinated and Mary Todd never seemed to recover from it.
