The Newport Aquarium is a fairly new attraction in Kentucky having been built in 1999. Located on the Levee in Newport City, it is a massive aquarium with 1 million gallons of salt and fresh water filled with over a thousand aquatic animals. It is a high-tech facility open daily with 14 galleries, 70 exhibits and 5 seamless acrylic passageways where visitors can view more than 200 feet of water, fish and aquatic creatures. Some of the amazing creatures you will see here are breeding shark rays, the largest jellyfish gallery in the Midwest, a frog bog, alligators, the Ohio River Tank, and their latest exhibit called, The Penguin Palooza. The Newport Aquarium ranked as the Top Aquarium in the Midwest based on the Zagat Survey in 2004.
