Home to the 12th US President, Zachary Taylor, the Zachary Taylor House, also known as Springfield, is an estate in Louisville, Kentucky. The site was the boyhood home of the former president, and continuously served as his home, whenever he returns to the area during his lifetime.

Springfield was bought by Taylor?s father, Colonel Richard Taylor, as a 400-acre property back in 1785. Zachary Taylor was just eight months old at the time, and the house was soon built. In 1800, the Colonel bought additional 300 acres to expand his property. This is where the former president got married in 1810.

The Zachary Taylor House is just next door to the Locust Grove, a National Historic Landmark. Springfield only attained a spot in the National Register of Historic Places, because to become an NHL, the buildings around it needed to be demolished.
