The Alexandria Zoological Park is considered as the number one family-oriented tourist attraction in Louisiana. The 33-acre park first opened in 1926 and is owned by the City of Alexandria. It features about 500 animals today, but used to exhibit discarded pets like goats, rabbits, and even deer. All over the world, the Alexandria Zoological Park is the only zoo that exhibits white-tailed sea eagles (there are only two in their care). It is also among the 20 zoos in the world that keeps Malayan tigers, and is one among 10 that features lowland anoa. There have not been too much documentation on the beginning years of the Alexandria Zoological Park, but according to public comment, the zoo has once kept a buffalo and a chimpanzee.
