The Arna Bontemps African American Museum can be found in Alexandria and is known to be the restored home of the poet Arna Bontemps. He is also a known author, librarian and anthologist. He was considered to be the leading expert when it comes to the Harlem Renaissance. His credits include a total of 20 books and was also part of the New Negro movement.
The exhibits of the museum feature most of his work and it is included in the list of National Register of Historic Places. It is also the sole historical landmark listed as part of the African American Historical Places that was printed by the 1994 National Park Service team. It was also cited for the All America City Award in Alexandria.
