The Jungle Gardens serves as home to a wide variety of plants and animals. It serves as an ideal bird sanctuary that was developed by Edward Avery Mcllheny, and hence it can be found on Avery Island. It is where you can find about 20,000 herons and egrets combined. It also has a Chinese Garden that has various bamboo stands and even a Buddha statue that dates from way back AD 1000.

The founder by the nickname of Ned was himself an arctic explorer and a conservationist. He was the one who first studied all the plants and animals right on Avery Island and its other parts like the marshes. He was the one who converted the private island into what is now called as the Jungle Gardens.
