The Louisiana Political Museum is a historical museum located in Winnfield, Louisiana. The museum was established to highlight the careers and lives of hundreds of the state of Louisiana?s best politicians and political journalists. The museum was established in August 1993 and was situated in Winnfield because the area has been considered as the ?birthplace of Louisiana Politics? which included politicians like governors Oscar K. Allen, Earl Kemp Long and Huey P. Long Jr.

Guests of the Louisiana Political Museum should expect different exhibits and memorabilia including large displays of both Earl Kemp Long and Huey P. Long Jr. including sculptures of the two governors speaking to voters. Recordings of the Long family political speeches are also played in the museum every so often.

The Long family exhibit is not limited to the two governors as there are other Long family members who have represented the state of Louisiana and has been inducted into the Louisiana Political Museum. Some of the other famous politicians from the Long family include the former U.S. Representative Speedy O. Long and Gillis W. Long, as well as the late U.S. Senator Russel B. Long and state representative Jimmy D. Long. A special permanent exhibit has also been placed in the museum for United States President Zachary Taylor who grew up in Louisiana.

Until recently a total of 121 politicians have been inducted into the Louisiana Political Museum?s Hall of Fame, majority of who belong to the Democratic Party. Some of the Republican politicians that are commemorated and honored in the museum include governors David C. Treen, Charles E. Roemer and Mike Foster while representatives include Henson Moore, Richard H. Bake and Bob Livingston.

Admission inside the Louisiana Political Museum is free of charge. The museum is open from Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
