Formerly known as the Pine Tree State Arboretum, the botanical garden boasts of 224 acres of exquisite plants belonging to more than 300 different species of plants and trees. Also available at the site are various nature trails, which can be used for pleasure strolls and biking, that lead to charming woodlands, forests, and ponds, as well as farmland which once served as a State Hospital farm.

At the Vile Arboretum?s Forestry Demo Area, visitors may enjoy viewing the garden?s collection of both living plants and the earliest paintings of the garden. Other gardens found at the arboretum include the Hosta Garden, the DAR Historical Garden, the Native Plant Garden, and the Quarry Ledge Rock Garden, which was created in 1983. Also of interest in the garden are its conifer and chestnut collection.
