The Baltimore Museum of Art is one of the largest art museums in the United States. Founded in 1914, this is the de facto official art museum of the state of Maryland. This Roman Temple-styled museum is home to several world-renowned collections of 19th century, modern and contemporary works of art. From its single painting possession during its establishment in 1914, the collections grew to up to 90,000 artworks today, including the biggest collection of Henri Matisse masterpieces. The museum is administered by private Board of Trustees and gets financial support from the Baltimore City government.

Visitors to the museum reach up to 300,000 annually. The museum’s star exhibit is the Cone Collection, which contains works of Picasso, Matisse, Manet, van Gogh, Renoir, Degas, Gauguin, and Cezanne. The museum’s other popular collections both permanent and traveling include African tribe art, Antioch Mosaics, and Art of Ancient Americas.
