It may be small but it sure is one tough boat to crack. Boating fans will surely find the “Baltimore” a welcome tidbit to add to their boat knowledge. The Baltimore is a well-preserved tugboat currently moored at the city of its namesake, Baltimore. It is considered the oldest manually fed, coal-fueled, steam-powered tugboat in the United States. It is also the last remaining boat of its type.

The boat was built in 1906 by the Skinner Shipbuilding Company based in Baltimore, Maryland. It originally operated as a harbor inspection tug. It also served as a VIP vessel, an icebreaker and an emergency fireboat. It spent its career cruising in and around Baltimore. For its historic significance, it was added to the National Historical Landmark list in 1993.
