Café Hon is an iconic dining place in Hampden, Baltimore, Maryland famous for its crabcakes, burger, and bread pudding dessert. It was put up in April 22, 1992 by Denise Whiting, a Baltimore local after going through 32 different jobs since her college days at the University of Baltimore. She used the city’s most common term of endearment, “Hon”, short for “Honey” as the name of her true-blue “Bawlmer” restaurant. Aside from the delicious homey food they serve at Café Hon, it became more popular because of the large pink flamingo decorating its façade. Originally made out of cloth and wire, it was replaced by a fiberglass sculpture that continues to be Café Hon’s eye-catching icon after winning over the controversies behind its size and an expensive attempt to bring it down for good.
