The Colonial Annapolis Historic District is the best place to start out a tour of Maryland?s capital, Annapolis. It is the capital of both the colony as well as the state. This entire area contains some of the most important historical data for colonial Annapolis. Moreover, Colonial Annapolis was one of the first planned cities in the history of colonial America. To this day visitors will be able to see many parts of the original town plan.

Additionally within the area are several important architecture that are also listed in the National Registry. This includes the Maryland State House, Hammond-Harwood House, Peggy Stewart House, the United States Naval Academy, and many others. The Colonial Annapolis was declared National Historical Landmark on June 23, 1965.
