Cunningham Falls State Park is divided into two separate zones. The William Houck Area has the falls, lake and camping areas. The Manor Area off Route on the other side has the Scales and Tales Aviary, camping sites and the historical Catoctin Iron Furnace. Cunningham Falls, a 78-foot waterfall, is the largest cascading falls in the state. The locals call it McAffee Falls.

Swimmers are allowed in three areas in Hunting Creek Lake depending on swimming availability. Swimming is banned at the falls, due to safety and conservation reasons. Hiking and mountain trekking depends on one?s whim at the moment. Trails ranging from easy half-mile to a stennous 27 miles await the thrill seeker. Picnic sites complete with tables and grills are available on both areas. William Houck area has no covered pavilions or sheltered areas; while a picnic shelter made of native stone is available to the Manor Area visitors.

Only elective motor boats from a boat concession are allowed during summer season. Deer hunting is strictly supervised in the hunting area. Hunters with Hunt for Vehicles permits are allowed to do so. Fishing in Hunting Creek Lake is a sport that uses catch and release trout stream limited to using artificial baits and flies only.
