Deep Creek Lake State Park is located in Garrett County, the western most county in Maryland. The park gets its name from nearby Deep Creek Lake, a lake with sixty-nine miles of shoreline that is open to recreational swimming, fishing, and boating.

Deep Creek Lake State Park has one mile of the lake's shoreline with picnic areas, public beaches, and docks for boat launching. There are also many opportunities to hike and camp in the Meadow Mountain camping area that is in the hills just above the lake. Trails range from moderate to difficult. Hunting is also allowed during the regulated hunting seasons that come and go over the course of the year. Hunting areas are posted and applicable licences are required.

Be sure to visit the Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center, which houses many native species of fish, reptile, and amphibians for a hands-on look at wildlife that lives in the forest and in the lake itself. The Discovery Center staff can teach about the local conservation efforts as well as give a cultural and historical background on the logging and coal-mining country that existed before the park.

Deep Creek Lake State Park is open year round. In the winter hiking trails become open to cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, and when the lake freezes over conditions are perfect for ice-fishing.
