The Latvian Museum was established in 1978 with the intention of preserving and communicating to the people of the history and the culture of the Latvians. The first exhibit on display was sponsored by a trust from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Some of the artifacts and historical pieces in the museum include structures that were used by the Latvians, old furnishings, articles for personal uses, photographs, rare books, antique manuscripts, important documents of historical origin, archaeological items, tools and implements, old stamps and coins, and printed ephemera, folk culture, graphic arts, decorative arts, and other historical items.

An early Latvian bible, a large storage barrel made of copper, and a spinning wheel, all from the 1800?s are among the rare finds in this museum. The Latvian Museum is encased in facilities that house the Headquarters of the American Latvian Association and the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran church that includes a Saturday school for Latvians in the area.

Appointments for in-viewing of the Latvian Museum can be made by groups and schools. Come and get one!
