Prior to the establishment of the 110-acre zoo in 1986, the Plumpton Park Zoo had been a small and private collection which gradually became open to the public due to strong demand. The zoo currently cares for over 300 animals belonging to more than eighty species. Animals that visitors may view at the zoo include but aren?t limited to crocodiles, antelopes, camels, bison, a mountain lion, and various species of apes.

The zoo offers different types of memberships for visitors to enjoy discounted rates. At the zoo, pre-packaged food and drinks are available from a concession stand for those who wish to take a meal while enjoying the different exhibits.

Of the many family and children?s programs available from the zoo, one of the most popular would be the Summer Safari, which lasts for one week and allows families to feed and care for some of the zoo?s smaller animals.
