The Schifferstadt Architectural Museum is one of the oldest and most historic structures in Frederick, Maryland. It was constructed in the beginning of the French and Indian war when the westerm Maryland farms were evacuated and abandoned by frontier settlers who were scared of the raids from the French and their Indians. The Schifferstadt structure provided a place to stay for the families from the west of the city who wanted to stay on the premise of their land in case they needed it still.

The house is a large stone structure that sits on 303 acres of virgin timberland by German immigrant Joseph Bruner, who left his village of Klein Schifferstadt together with his family in 1729 hoping for independence that includes the right to own property, which would allow them to build a home in this ?New Land.? The farm was named Schifferstadt after Bruner?s hometown in the Palatinate region of South Western Germany.

Today, it provides one of the best examples of early Colonial German Architecture in the City of Frederick. It is able to reflect the German traditions of its owners through its architecture and well-preserved features.
