The Stanton?s Mills is well-known for grinding wheat, flour and other grains using the traditional methods and approaches. The products at the Mill do not contain preservatives or chemicals. The mill area permits visitors to grind flour themselves and ?falsely? repackage their own produce and label it as ?stone ground.? These fake products are displayed in the shelves of many retailers while the original products are the ones being sold in stores.

According to historical accounts, the location of The Stanton?s Mills was discovered by Jesse Tomlison in 1797. The owner originally installed a two-story mill. It was rebuilt years later before the Civil War and was sold to the Stanton Family. In 1888, the buhr stones were replaced by the new owners with eight sets of steel roller mills to hasten the milling process in a higher temperature. The mill grew larger to its present size in 1900 and used it as grist and feed mill. The Stanton stopped its grist operations in 1977 but only retained the feed mill until 1994 when it was abandoned.

In 2002, the John Childers, a Kentucky miller, partnered with Penn Alps, Inc. to reinstate the Stanton?s Mill and install an authentic 1860-1889 stone ground grist mill.

What can be seen in the present-day Stanton?s Mill are the undershot water wheke, two steam power, two different turbines, a high breastshot water wheel and electric power. The products sold within the mill are graham four, whole wheat flour, white unbleached flour, yellow and white cornmeal, white and yellow grits, rye four, buckwheat flour cake mix flours and other wheat products.

Visitors will have a glimpse of the traditional approaches using the old-time milling with stones through these guided tours. They will also have an opportunity to make their own product and buy several wheat products as they leave the Stanton?s Mill.
