The Appalachian Trail is a national attraction that runs from the Springer Mountain in Georgia through Mount Katahdin in Maine. It is about 2181 miles long and passes through the states of Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, West Virginia, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts. It goes through the wilderness mostly, but some areas are found along towns and roads as well as crossing rivers.
Also known as the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, the Appalachian Trail is famous for hiking and wilderness camping. It can be accessed for free, except on some areas. It should also be noted that not all areas have available facilities, so visitors are advised to carry important supplies like drinking water and such.
