Created after the land was given to the state in 1959 as a means to create a new state park, the C. M. Gardner State Park was established as a means to honor the memory of Charles M. Gardner. Gardner was a local farmer, National Grange leader during 1913 to 1947, and a writer.

The C. M. Gardner State Park boasts of a scenic section of the Westfield River. It is famous its summer views, making it the ideal place to relax. Folks can also enjoy a wooded picnic area, walking trails, canoeing, fishing, and hunting.
