The Museum of Afro-American History controls and operates the Abiel Smith School and the African Meeting House. Both of these locations are historical and located at the heart of Boston’s 19th century African American Community.
The African Meeting House is one of the oldest built churches in the U.S for the Black Americans. This was constructed in 1806, which serves as a church and at the same time as a school and political organization. Then in 1854, it was restored and changes its appearance.
On the second hand, Abiel Smith School was built in 1834 as a public grammar school, which was the first grammar school in the country of African American children.
