Old City Hall, located at Boston, Massachusetts, stands to be one of the landmarks that exemplifies the concept of adaptive reuse. Between 1961-1971, Boston's City Hall was converted to a restaurant and a functional office building that was first class. Because the concept of recycling public buildings that got outdated was not popular at that time, the conversion of the hall became publicized which then became the model of successful redeveloped municipal property. Until now, this part of history is still recognized to have shaped the world of architecture and engineering.

It was in 1969 when Boston had its fourth city hall at the Government Center that this office building was vacated. While it was still the official City Hall, there were 38 Boston mayors who served the city in this building on School Street. The structure of this building was one of the first in United States as built with the French Second Empire Style.

Inside the Old City Hall are masterpieces worthy of recognition as well. Some public art masterpieces are displayed like the mural on the wall which faces the entrance. This one was painted in 1984 by partners Winer and Knoepffler. The names inscribed are of the Boston mayors who served with the years of their administration stated in typestyles. There are also statues that can be found in the courtyard. The ones displayed there are of Benjamin Franklin's and Josiah Quincy's. Franklin has a statue because he was born in Boston while Quincy is recognized for his service as second Mayor of Boston. The latter served from the year 1823 to 1828.

Today, the hall is still a functional office building maintaining its historical value. Some of the tenants include the Architectural Heritage Foundation, North Bridge Capital, Inc., Preservation Mass, Laufer and Associates, Lack & Cogan among many others. The spaces they have are for leasing but it depends on the availability. Managed by the Old City Hall Landmark Corporation, the Old City Hall still recognizes the marks of the past.
