The Western Gateway Heritage State Park is a state park and recreation area in North Adams, Massachusetts. It is also a historic site that features the old Boston & Maine Railroad yard.
The Western Gateway Heritage State Park can also be considered as an open air museum. It is focused on the history of the Hoosac Tunnel, which is considered as one of the greatest engineering feats during the 19th century. The tunnel, built from the 1850s to the late 1860s, took a great amount of work to finish, since it was dug through the Hoosac Mountain, providing a link between Massachusetts and Albany, NY. It also took a great number of lives, as the construction was very risky and dangerous.
