Elk Rapids is a resort village in Antrim County, Michigan. It was first established in the 1840s and quickly grew and attracted visitors due to its location. This is why, by the mid 1800s, the locals already felt that they need a meeting place which could also serve as their major community venue.

By 1883, the locals have already built the Elk Rapids Township Hall. It was designed by Charles Peale, who made the theatre as timeless and sturdy as it can be, making it still a great piece of architecture today, even after almost a century and a half of its completion.

Today, the Elk Rapids Township Hall is still continuously being used by the village as a theatre and public venue for their community events. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
