Built in 1928, the Fisher Building is one of the most beautiful early commercial skyscrapers in the country. It was named after its financers, the Fisher family, who used the money from the sale of the Fisher Body to General Motors to fund the project.

Initially, the Fisher Building was designed by its architects at the Albert Kahn Associates to be a complex with three buildings. They wanted two 30-story buildings to flank a 60-story middle tower. Sadly, the onset of the Great Depression prevented this from happening, so a single 30-story building was the only thing that materialized.

The Fisher Building is celebrated by most architects and artists until today. When it was dedicated in 1928, the Architectural League of New York called it the ?year?s most beautiful structure?. It was also declared a National Historic Landmark in 1989.
