Created by artist Tyree Guyton and his grandpa, Sam Mackey, in 1986, the Heidelberg Project is an outdoor art project that can be visited in Detroit, Michigan. It is a very interesting site, filled with folk art of different sorts, most of which as a form of a political statement in how much the city deteriorated after the 1967 riots.

Mostly, the Heidelberg Project worked on the exteriors and facades of the homes in the McDougall-Hunt neighborhood and on Heidelberg Street. They painted houses with an assortment of colors and attached salvaged items to them, making the properties great examples of works of art.

Heidelberg Project aims to promote the Detriot East Side community from being a place no one wants to be in, to something that people should be proud of.
