Michigan is best known for having the most lighthouses in the country. It has a total of 149 towers and one of which is the New Presque Isle Light.

Constructed in 1870 as a replacement to the deteriorated Old Presque Isle Light, the New Presque Isle Light was established after a Congress vote. It employed a unique and elegant design on its interiors that became the prototype of the other later Great Lakes lighthouses. This element is the spiral cast iron stairway that leads to the top gallery.

The New Presque Isle Light is known as one of the tallest towers in the Great Lakes, being visible up to 25 miles away. It is currently operated by the Presque Isle Park as a museum and lighthouse.
