The Port Huron Museum of Arts and History, founded in 1967, opened in 1968. It is housed in the historic Carnegie Library that was built in 1904.

The Port Huron Museum promotes the celebration of the history and culture of the Blue Water Area. It also encourages people to appreciate the other people and places around it.

Today, the Museum provides exhibitions that cover local history, fine arts, natural history, decorative arts, and Great Lakes marine lore. In 1990, the Museum was able to open its 1st off-site facility at the Huron Lightship, which is now a National Historic Landmark in the waterfront park. A 2nd facility was opened in 2001 and it is called the Thomas Edison Depot Museum since it interprets the early life of Thomas Edison in the area.
