The Public Museum of Grand Rapids prides itself for being one of the oldest history museums in the United States. It has been established in 1854, originally as the Grand Rapids Lyceum of Natural History in the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. From then on, it continued to be a popular tourist attraction. It has a gift shop, a 1928 Spillman Carousel, and a gift shop on the site.

The Public Museum of Grand Rapids has five permanent exhibits. Its displays are rather wide ranging, spanning the long history of West Michigan and Grand Rapids. It starts with the Native American culture of the place to its tradition of being the furniture manufacturing capital of the world, and up to its early 20th century business district history. It also features a natural history of Western Michigan exhibit.
