The building where these two historic music spots are has been a quiet but popular landmark in the corner of First Avenue and 7th Street in downtown Minneapolis. Established in the 1970, the iconic black, art deco building became the hub of Midwest music scene. The building is marked by 531 stars along its exterior to represent the artists and people who made their contributions to the legacy of First Avenue and the American music scene.

Among the famous artists who performed here are Prince, The Replacements, Soul Asylum, Semisonic, The Revolution and Curtiss A.
