The Minnesota Discovery Center showcases the Iron Range of northeastern Minnesota. It showcases the stories within the region through artifacts, exhibits, interpretive demonstrations, oral histories, and education program that promote the preservation of the area?s fascinating history so the public will be able to gain access to it.

The facility started out to be a medium for celebration of the ethnicities that have migrated to the region during the beginning of the 20th century. These communities found work in the burgeoning iron ore mines and to other related industries.

Now, the Minnesota Discovery Center Museum occupies 33,000 square feet of space that features artifacts and helps people examine mining methods, explore regional geology, and host traveling exhibits that would bring to life the spirit and sensibilities of the immigrants and their descendants in the region. The stories told in the museum serve as chronicles of the Iron Range development. This is the region that became the largest producer of iron ore. In the Museum, there is also a special area that is devoted to the life and work of Rudy Perpich, the Iron Range native who became the longest serving Governor in Minnesota.
