The Pipestone County Museum is a huge and important part of the Pipestone County Historical Society which was organized way back in 1880. Its museum though opened up in 1967 right inside the former building of the city hall. It is one amazing structure that is made out of genuinely quarried Sioux quartzite. The entire group only has one mission of preserving the history of the place and taking good care of its artifacts and genealogical resources.

It also belongs to the listing of the National Register of the Historic Places. Even if the county is one of the younger ones in the entire state, their group is considered as the second to the oldest historical societies of the county.
