Tettegouche State Park is named after Tettegouche Club, an organization of local businessmen who acquired the park in 1910 from Alger-Smith Lumber Company. It was later sold to de Laittres Family. In 1991, the state of Minnesota purchased 14 sq. kilometers from the nature observatory Tettegouche camp included, together with Baptism River State Park. It was renamed Tettegouche state park. Six inland lakes comprise the park along with 4 waterfalls and Lake Superior Beach. The High Falls waterfall is 70 feet tall, undoubtedly, the highest in Minnesota.

The park contains hiking trails with a span of 35 kilometers or 22 miles. Only four state parks in Minnesota offer the ultimate sport of rock climbing. Several camping areas are equipped with cart-in walk-in kayak-in and drive-in sites. Another feature is the drive up cabins. Modern amenities like public phones, flush toilets and showers are featured in these campsites. Ice and firewood are on sale inside the compound. Picnic areas with grills and tables are also available. Forms of wildlife are seen at the park. Visitors always plan to return to Tettegouche State Park.
