The Buccaneer State Park is a state park and recreation area in Waveland, Mississippi. It is home to several annual events, making it quite a destination.

Located in a marshland in the Gulf of Mexico, the Buccaneer State Park traces its roots back to the late 1700s when it was still used for smuggling and pirating under the leadership of the French Buccaneer Jean Lafitte. Laffite resided in the area. It was also used as a base of military operations under Andrew Jackson, who also lived on the very location of the park later on.

The Buccaneer State Park was closed for a couple of years after Hurricane Katrina. It was reopened in May 2010 and now offers opportunities for camping, nature trails, disc golf, and playgrounds. Other areas, like the Buccaneer Bay Waterpark is still being developed.
