The DeSoto County Museum focuses on the history and development of the County of DeSoto starting from 1541 up to the present. It features a collection of artifacts that existed during the arrival of Hernando DeSoto and his connections with Mississippi?s native inhabitants. The Museum?s displays encompasses the riverboat days as it features a working model of a paddlewheel boat. The exhibits, on the other hand, feature the parlor of a certain antebellum mansion as well as artifacts related to the Civil War.

The Museum also displays key events that have contributed to the agricultural, recreational, and social development of DeSoto County. Its exhibits include highlights on the River Kings, the DeSoto Civic Center, the Economic Council, local artwork and entertainment, as well as stories of the growing communities of Horn Lake, Olive Branch, Southhaven, and Hernando. It features events within the African-American community.

The DeSoto County Museum also provides education programs that enhance the visitors? education in Geology, Archeology, and Community Education.

The Museum is open from Tuesday from Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.
