Another prominent antebellum mansion in Natchez, Mississippi is the Longwood, also called the Nutt’s Folly. The structure is mostly popular for its octagonal shape.

Declared as a National Historic Landmark in 1969 as soon as it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Longwood has been featured and used as a setting for TV shows. It was designed by Philadelphia architect, Samuel Sloan, for Dr. Haller Nutt, who was also a cotton planter. The house was started in 1859 and was never finished due to the Civil War and Dr. Nutt’s death.

The Longwood features 9 rooms, although the original plan designed 32. It now operates as a historic house museum under the care of the Pilgrimage Garden Club.
