The Marion County Museum and Archives was opened six years ago, with the assistance of the City of Columbia. With the assistance from the City of Columbia, the Marion County Historical Society was able to fulfill one of its goals of collecting and preserving artifacts, historical documents, and other objects of importance. The Museum proved to be a significant and helpful institution inensuring that the future generations will have access to the history of their area.

The Museum also houses an extensive Civil War Library that features numerous first*edition books. Up to now, it is growing to be a collection of significant and interesting data, artifacts, and other historical and genealogical information.

The society, with the assistance of the Supervisors and the City of Columbia, was able to find and acquire a safe place to store its archival records and documents. The Museum provided a place where it can be sorted out, organized, and arranged for easier use and referencing. In order to provide the public a more efficient service and convenient way to access the collections, the society continuously works to secure and generate the necessary funding and resources so that it can digitize and publish some of its most significant records.
