Starting with only a few hundred pieces, the permanent collection of the Museum now has about 3,800 artworks focusing on the mid-19th and 20th century American art. Whistler.

The Mississippi Collection of the Museum also includes a wide selection of works by Mississippi artists like 19th-centur painter G. Ruger Donoho.
