The Shepard State Park is a state park and recreation area in Gautier, Mississippi. It is best known and loved for its excellent nature setting and amenities.

However, the Shepard State Park also has an interesting story to tell. It is mostly focused on its location in the heart of the Singing River, aka Pascagoula River. The river got its name from the legend where the members of the Pascagoula tribe preferred to go into the water rather than be taken captive by other hostile Indian tribes. They chanted as they walked, giving the name to the river.

Aside from its legends, the Shepard State Park is also rich with recreational opportunities. It is ideal for camping, hiking, picnicking, disc golfing, and boating.
